More About Ingatestone
Situated between Mountnessing and Margaretting on the the popular A12 ideal for those who commute to London or Colchester. It has always been a popular destination for commuters, since the Roman times, travelers from London to Camulodunum (Roman for Colchester) would stop at Ingatestone after a day travel by horse to rest for the evening. The name is believed to have derived from Saxon times meaning “people” or “settlement at the stones” due to the bespoke stones believed to be from the Ice Age located on its’ high street.
Home to Ingatestone Hall, it has been owned by the Petre family and has been for 18 generations dating back to 1505 to Sir William Petre. The Manor offers great history and advance architectural design. It is possible to have a private tour of the manor and its’ glorious grounds, you can also hire Ingatestone Hall for events such as weddings. Located on Hall Lane Ingatestone.
